Manchester United are reportedly planning to sell winger Antony during the upcoming summer transfer window, according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti. The decision comes after a disappointing season from the Brazilian, who has failed to live up to his hefty £95 million price tag acquired from Ajax in 2022.

While United will aim to recoup as much as possible for the 24-year-old, reports suggest they will prioritize securing an “acceptable” offer rather than holding out for a return on their initial investment. This shift in strategy reflects a desire to not only maximize the profit from the sale but also free up significant wages. Antony currently earns a staggering £6 million annually on a contract that runs until 2027.

Galetti further claims that Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise has emerged as the frontrunner to replace Antony at Old Trafford. The 22-year-old Englishman has impressed with his performances for the Eagles this season, showcasing his dribbling skills and creativity on the wing. While Olise is the preferred target, United are also monitoring other options to ensure they find the best fit for their revamped squad.

Antony’s struggles at Manchester United have been well documented. After a promising start that displayed glimpses of his talent, his form has dipped significantly. Statistics reveal a stark contrast to his time at Ajax. Stats show a significant drop in goals and assists compared to his Dutch Eredivisie performances.

This underwhelming return on investment, coupled with his high wages, has seemingly convinced Manchester United that a parting of ways is the best course of action. The club is currently undergoing a period of significant transition, with Erik ten Hag’s future as manager also seemingly uncertain. Offloading Antony would free up funds for potential replacements and ease the burden on the wage bill, allowing for more strategic investment in the squad.

Michael Olise, the reported frontrunner to replace Antony, offers a more youthful and potentially cost-effective option. His dribbling ability and attacking prowess have been on display for Crystal Palace this season, suggesting he could potentially fill the void left by the Brazilian. However, with other names also being considered, United will undoubtedly conduct a thorough evaluation before making a final decision.
